‘Owned by Oxford’ Community Wealth Building Pilot: Sharing Our Learning
Fri, 28 Apr 2023 10am-12pm, Online (Zoom)
Launched in 2021, Owned by Oxford is a group of community enterprises and infrastructure projects working with larger Oxford institutions, working together to bring wealth and power into the hands of local people.
A lot has been achieved in the life of the pilot. Owned by Oxford has grown into a diverse and representative partnership. It has supported relationship-building between community groups and larger organisations working for social change in Oxford.
The project has also secured funding for community groups and helped them to grow and build their legitimacy in the eyes of funders and other local institutions. And there have been new commitments from anchor institutions, such as County and City Councils, for this work.
However, there is a long way to go on the path to building a truly inclusive economy. Although Oxford’s Black, minoritised and economically marginalised communities are those most affected by wealth inequality, their voices aren’t often heard within the discussions around policy and practice.
At this event the Owned by Oxford team will be sharing our learning to date and ideas for what needs to happen next. We’ll be exploring ways to create shifts in power sharing by Oxford’s “wealth holders” and bring seldom-heard voices into economic development processes.
There will be lots of opportunities for you to ask questions and talk with other people.
Hosted by:
- Anaïs Bozetine, Owned by Oxford Project Coordinator

Owned by Oxford: building community wealth from the ground up
Wednesday 12th Apr 2023 2-4pm, City of Oxford College – Blackbird Leys Campus Cuddesdon Way Oxford OX4 6HN
About this event
Owned by Oxford launched in April 2021 and since then we’ve been working together to explore ways to bring wealth and power into the hands of local people. This has included helping people to set up businesses that are owned by and for the local community, looking at how groups can take ownership of buildings and spaces, amplifying less-heard voices and getting anchor institutions – councils, universities, businesses – to redirect their spending to increase local benefit.
In this session there will be a presentation about what we’ve learnt so far – and our plans for the future! We’ll also be taking a closer look at place-based community wealth building through exploring the approach and opportunities for Blackbird Leys in East Oxford.
There will be lots of opportunities for you to ask questions and talk with other people.
This event is part of Marmalade Festival 2023, which takes place in 6 venues across Oxford from 11 to 14 April. https://www.marmalade.io/

Come see the new Owned by Oxford Dome and explore what community ownership could look like in Blackbird Leys

The Owned buy Oxford team and partners will be in Blackbird Leys on Wednesdays 23rd and 30th November and 7th December between 1pm and 4pm. We have an amazing ‘pop-up’ dome and we are inviting members of the public to come and talk to us about what their needs are around community spaces and how we can work together to make them work for everyone.
We look forward to seeing there.
